"What do you want me to do for you?"

Mark 10:46 - 53 (NLT)
Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
46And so they reached Jericho. Later, as Jesus and his disciples left town, a great crowd was following. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus (son of Timaeus) was sitting beside the road as Jesus was going by. 47When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus from Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

48"Be quiet!" some of the people yelled at him.

But he only shouted louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"

49When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, "Tell him to come here."

So they called the blind man. "Cheer up," they said. "Come on, he's calling you!" 50Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.

51"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked.

"Teacher," the blind man said, "I want to see!"

52And Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your faith has healed you." And instantly the blind man could see! Then he followed Jesus down the road.[h]

---------------------------------my reflections----------------->----------------->-@

I was reading this passage following the Lent readings that leads up to Good Friday. I've read this passage countless of times and each time I read it, I gather new insights. THat's the reason why the Word of God is Living and ACTIVE. It never fails to shed new light. Jesus was on his way to fulfill his final mission, that is to deliver himself to a human institution which will finally executes God's will for his Only Son to DiE on the cross for the sins of all mankind.

He passes by Jericho, historically, a place of victories and faith. Joshua led the Israelites round the Jericho wall and on the 7th day the wall crumbled and fell into Israel's hand. God did. Here a blind beggar shouted to gain Jesus' attention. There was a great crowd following him. The crowd had a different expectation of Jesus. Some would have thought He was marching to Cesaer to demand he hand over his kingdom. There were great anticipation. The crowd yelled at Bartimaeus and told him to 'shut up'. But Bartimaeus never did. Jesus heard his shout amist the noisy crowd surrounding him. He asked for Bartimaeus to be brought to him and asked him,

"What do you want me to do for you?"

WOW.

Jesus was on his way for the MISSION, HE was here for. Yet, he stopped and asked a blind man, " What do you want me to do for you?" I felt God asking me the same question that morning when I was meditating on this passage. Though I didn't shout but God knew the shouts of my heart. I'm yearning, longing for my parents to commit themselves to God. I told God I want my parents' salvation. I felt God causing that faith in me to rise and it's as if God has sealed this in heaven. I have perfect assurance and I believe that day will come, soon.

I thank God that I am able to listen to God in such a personal manner once again.

Lord, What do you want me to do for you?

Beyond the acts of verbal confession

Most Word-Faith teachers will use Mark 11:22 - 24 to justify their teaching and practise on "Faith as Positive Confession". Mark 11:22 - 24 (NASB) 22And Jesus answered saying to them, "Have faith in God. 23Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and castinto the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he saysis going to happen, it will be granted him. 24Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe thatyou have received them, and they will be granted you. 25Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone,so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. Word-Faith teachers propogate that whatever you confess will come to pass but you must believe you have already received it. Therefore, if you still have lingering symptoms of an illness, confess that you are healed and not mention your symptoms then you are healed. I believe there's a ...

truth hurts but it heals too

2 nights ago, I asked a very close friend of mine if I am an insistent person. Haha.. without any second thoughts, she said yes. Wow, that drove a long nail right through my heart. If you ask, you'll get the answers. Of course, initially I would think to myself, I do not think I am an insistent person all the time but I only insist when I am sure about certain things close to my heart i.e. when I have been seeking God about it or it is IN my system due to long periods of conditioning e.g. spiritually or just my personal value system. That analysis certainly made me felt better but it also got me reflecting (truth heals). As I thought through, certainty about something for me will activate a wish/desire to see it happen immediately and NOW. If it is God's will, it is NOW. As I look back on buying our first flat, it was the same. When I first view the unit (my current place), I was quite sure that the house was IT. But my then fiance and husband now do not think so and asked me ...

Judge Not

"Do not judge lest you be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eyes, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eyes." - Matthew 7:1-5 (NASB) Otto Fong, used this principle to counter those who decided to 'judge' him because he openly shared that he is a gay. I admire his "courage" and "determination" to be who he is - he only asked for acceptance. His disclosure risked him losing his job as a teacher in the prestigious Raffles Institution whom he had been with for 8 years and also unwanted multiples of criticisms darted towards his sexual preference. O...
